While sadly, death is a part of life, there are those people whose passing generates public mourning. It was just a few days ago on 26th January 2020 that American basketball legend Kobe Bryant lost his life in a tragic accident. Alongside his daughter, Gianna who was just 13, Bryant and seven others perished when a helicopter taking the party to a basketball game for the young girls’ team Gianna played min. Orange Coast College baseball coach John Altobelli, his wife Keri and daughter Alyssa, who played on the same basketball team as Gianna, and the girls' coach Christina Mauser were also on board.
Bryant was a Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard and had joined the team straight from High School, playing the whole 20 seasons of this career for them. Winning many, many awards provided evidence as just to how good he was, and he was a personable family man. He inspired many young people not only to want to become professional sports players, some in basketball, some in other sports, but to be a committed family man. Kobe and Gianna leave behind wife and mother Vanessa and their three other daughters, Natalia, Bianca and Capri. Our thoughts are very much with his family and the family of the other people who perished that fateful day.
When such an icon passes, it generates an uprising of support and tributes from fans all around the world, and Hertfordshire is no exception. Here at MurWalls, we chose to pay homage to the basketball legend by immortalising him forever in a piece of amazing graffiti art at Renegade Fitness Academy on a wall outside the gym. It was styled and painted by our very own urban artists Mr Meana and Yakeism. We chose a portrait of Kobe, his name and shirt number, and what a fitting tribute we feel it is.
You can find out more about the mural by watching our MurWalls video, and of course, it can be seen in person at the Academy, and it is on their Instagram page as well as our own pages, @renegadefitnessacademy.
RIP to a legend and an icon #kobebryant
